Patronal Feast of Ss Peter and Paul in Gainsville, GA

July 12, 2013

On June 29, 2013, Saints Peter and Paul Orthodox Mission of the Orthodox Church in America (OCA) celebrated the Divine Liturgy in honor of the Feast of its patrons, the Apostles Peter and Paul.  The Mission is deeply grateful to the parish of St. Francis of Assisi Anglican Catholic Church, especially to the Rev. Jonah Bruce, for the use of their newly constructed church building at 1750 Thompson Bridge Road, for this service.

The Divine Liturgy was served by Father Paul Burholt; Father Thomas Alessandroni, pastor of St. John the Wonderworker, Atlanta; Father Jacob Kulp, pastor of St. Timothy’s Orthodox Church, Toccoa; Fr. Eugene Antonov, pastor of Joy of All Who Sorrow Russian Orthodox Church, Cumming; and Fr. David Hudson from Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church, Columbus, GA.  Visitors from the parishes of St. John the Wonderworker in Atlanta, St. Mary of Egypt in Lilburn, and the North Gwinnett Antiochian Orthodox Mission attended the service, along with local families.

The Saints Peter and Paul Mission currently meets in the Family Life Center of First Baptist Church on Green Street in Gainesville.  Divine Liturgy is served on 1st and 3rdSundays each month, and Reader’s Services are offered on most other Sundays.

The mission group hosts a series of monthly Vespers services followed by an informative lecture on first Saturdays in the fall, and an informal lecture series at Panera Bread Company throughout the school year.   More information is available at www.orthodoxgainesville.org/
